CET 2014 is only for Government and Aided colleges

CET 2014 is only for Government and Aided colleges

Recently the KEA has announced that CET examination will be held for admission only to the government aided colleges in Karnataka. For the year 2014, there isn’t going to be a CET examination for any of the private colleges. Instead they would have to write the COMEDK examination.

Private colleges will have admissions from National examinations such as NEET and ISEET in he near future.

While, this change isn’t what some people are pleased about, it still was very well expected.  Eventually after another decade or so there will be only one single examination for admission to absolutely any engineering or medical college in India (Just like the SAT examinations in the UK). But with the rise of number of deemed universities, you will also see dedicated examinations for their respective colleges. For instance, the second most preferred college PESIT also has plans to turn into a deemed university in the near future.

Should you be worried about this?

If you don’t quite remember, nearly 3 decades ago there wasn’t a CET examination as well. Each college had their own entrance examination in Karnataka. The CET was formed to have a common examination to admissions to these college and those dedicated examinations we’re replaced. Apparently, that turned our pretty well right? So on a national level, its only a matter of time students will get used to it.

How do I get into private college?

Students would have to write the COMEDK examination for admission to these private colleges like R.V College of Engineering and PESIT etc. The scams such as fake reservation category certificates and seat blocking are expected to vanish by this move since only students who can afford to get into a private college would do so. Other students would end up getting into a regular government owned or aided college.

So now there is no difference between schools and colleges and universities. Its back to private and government education.

Since all the admissions to private institutions will be from COMEDK it is expected that the fee for the COMEDK examination would remain stable and not increase by 8% as it usually does.
